Castleblayney made it six Monaghan senior hurling championship titles in-a-row today (Sunday) by seeing off Carrickmacross with 10 points to spare.

It finished 2-15 to 1-8 in Truagh, where Brian McGuigan’s early goal marked the perfect start for the holders as they’d go on to take in a four-point lead at the break.

Points from Fergal Rafter (3) stretched the ‘Blayney lead after the turnaround and Carrickmacross were left with a mountain to climb once Thomas Hughes’ goal went in, leaving it at 2-12 to 0-7 with 10 minutes to go.

Luke McKenna pulled back a goal for Carrick but that was as good as it got for them, as ‘Blayney maintained their place at top of the hurling summit in the Farney County with a 33rd success overall.
