Monaghan GAA Convention 2019

December 09, 2019

The recent annual GAA Convention in Monaghan was a relatively quiet affair with just one change in personnel on the management committee, but no motions for discussion had been submitted by the clubs.

Outgoing County secretary Francis Ward in a detailed report outlined 2019 as another progressive year in the County going on then to review all aspects of the GAA in Monaghan over the year.

County Treasurer Eileen Keenan was in the happy position of being able to report that Monaghan County Board’s finances were in a healthy state, showing an excess of income over expenditure of €96,643 on a turnover of just over 3 million Euro for the year. Team expenses for the year was the single biggest item of expenditure in the accounts at €646,359.

County board chairman Michael McMahon in a wide-ranging address dealt almost entirely with domestic issues, but stressed a number of areas where he would be looking for improvement in 2020, particularly the abuse that referees and members of the competitions control committee were subjected to during the year. He also announced a major review of the use of the facilities at the centre of excellence at the clock on which would be undertaken early in the New Year.
