ALL IRELAND QUALIFIERS

The draw for the final round of All Ireland senior championship qualifiers took place on Monday morning last and threw up two very interesting pairings, the all Connaught clash of Mayo and Galway, who will be meeting in a knock out championship game for the first time since 1999. That game is fixed for the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick this Saturday at 7.00pm. The all Ulster pairing of Cavan and Tyrone takes place in Clones on Saturday at 5.00pm and is preceded by the Ulster Under 20 championship semi final between the same counties with that one timed for 2.45pm. The other games see Meath taking on Clare in O’Moore Park Portlaoise on Sunday at 2.00pm with Cork taking on Laois in Semple Stadium, Thurles on Saturday at 5.00pm. Those fixtures now make the super eights groupings clearer where the winners of Cavan and Tyrone will be in group 2 along with Dublin, Roscommon and Cork or Laois while the winners of Galway and Mayo will be in group 1, along with Kerry, Donegal and the winners of Meath and Clare. Those fixtures are scheduled to be played over the weekends of Saturday July 13th/Sunday July 14th, Saturday July 20th/ Sunday July 21st and the weekend of Saturday, August 3rd and Sunday August 4th, with venues and times to be confirmed by CC C when the actual pairings are known.
