IFC Group C: Oldcastle demolish Moynalvey

Oldcastle maintained their 100% record and once again outlined their championship credentials with this devasting demolition of Moynalvey in round 3 of the Meade Farm IFC played at Simonstown on Saturday 7th September.

Moynalvey 0-6 Oldcastle 2-14

With both teams already qualified for the quarter final stage, it was Oldcastle who maintained their 100% record and take top spot in Group C, with Moynalvey now taking second place upon completion of the group stages.

Not for the first time in this group C campaign, Oldcastle made short work of the opposition in front of them, just as they did to St. Patricks in the opening round.

Right from the throw in, it was Brian Donohue’s charges who dominated throughout, leading 1-9 to 0-1 at half time and running out more than comfortable fourteen point winners on a 2-14 to 0-6 full time score line.

From Martin Dawson’s whistle at throw in to his full time whistle it was the North Meath side who led from start to finish. The game was effectively over at half time as Oldcastle led 1-9 to 0-1, with Moynalvey’s paltry sole first half score coming in the 33rd minute via Donal Smith.

That early scoring spree which yielded 1-9 included points from Dylan Garrigan who raided forward from corner back for the game’s opening score, Pearse Sheridan, Gareth Reilly, Ronan Maguire, Jason Scully, a customary ’45 from goalkeeper Conor McHugh and 1-3 from CJ Healy, the goal expertly dispatched to the top corner from the penalty spot.

Moynalvey’s Darren Brennan opened the second half scoring, with Oldcastle responding with a second ‘45 of the evening from Conor McHugh and a pair of CJ Healy points, one from play and one from a free.

Lively half time substitute Luke O’Halloran pointed for Moynalvey, with Jason Scully responding for Oldcastle to make it 1-13 to 0-3 ten minutes into the second half.

If the game wasn’t already over, the final nail was put in the Moynalvey coffin when Oldcastle wing back Lee Healy danced his way through the Moynalvey rearguard to score his second goal in as many games, 2-13 to 0-3.

Moynalvey tagged on a few late scores from substitute Stephen Donoghue, David McLoughlin and Cillian O’Sullivan, while Pearse Sheridan fired over for Oldcastle with the last kick of the game to give the Oldcastle men a more than convincing win over a lack lustre Moynalvey outfit.

A dazzling display from Oldcastle who head into the quarter final with their tails up, while Caoimhin King and his troops will now have to go back to the drawing board and re-group ahead of a quarter final in a fortnight’s time.
