Meath 0-18 Westmeath 2-5
An impressive first half display paved the way for this Meath victory over Westmeath in round 2 of the Leinster Under 20 Football Championship played in Ashbourne. PHOTOS
The home side were stunned in the opening minute when Jack Duncan stole in for a goal. Amazingly that proved to be Westmeath’s only score of the half. Meath were on level terms by the 10th minute and with corner forward Jamie Murphy in inspired form they led at the break 0-11 to 1-0.
Westmeath playing with the breeze in the second half were more in the game. The sides traded four points each before their second goal arrived courtesy of Tadgh Baker to leave five points in it with ten minutes remaining. Meath despite having their crossbar rattled for the second time and relying on a brilliant save from Oisin McDermott didn’t panic and finished the game with points from Cian Commons, Hughie Corcoran and Rian Stafford to close out the game.
Meath travel to Parnell Park next Tuesday to take on Dublin with a place in the quarter final already assured.
