Ballinabrackey 1-14 Clann Na nGael 3-7
Ballinabrackey had their second home game of the weekend on Sunday morning as they faced Clann Na nGael in the Premier Reserve Cup.
A crisp, cold morning but the Bracks were delighted to come away with a one point win. Barry Thompson started the game with a point from free and got another two scores on the board before Clann na nGael responded with a score from free themselves. Dean McNamee’s accuracy widened the gap for the Bracks, but the Gaels kept fighting back with a point of their own, before another point from Barry Thompson and a fantastic punch into the net from Simon Finn after a mistake from the Clann na nGael keeper gave the Bracks a 6 point lead. Credit to the Gaels though, they came fighting back with a point from play, a rattle to the back of the net and a point from free before the half time whistle leaving only a point in it. Bracks 1:05, Clann na nGael 1:04.
It was Clann na nGael that pushed on in the opening quarter of the second half with a point from play and then the Bracks missing a needed point when it bounced off the post, the Gaels then got a second goal to put them 3 ahead, their first time to lead the game, but the Bracks kept fighting back. More points from Gavin Quinn along with a point from Gordon Bannon kept the Bracks very much still in this game. Clann na nGael were then awarded a deserved penalty in which they took well and hit the back of the net, but huge credit to the Bracks they did not lie down and fought to the very end. A solid team effort from all positions on the field and points from Ronan Thompson, Gavin Quinn and Barry Thompson found them right back into this battle, but it was a fine, well taken point from Gavin Quinn that provided the winner and got the Bracks over the line with a 1 point win in this contest.
