Dunshaughlin congratulate Mairéad Delaney and Frank Gallogly

Frank Gallogly and Mairead Delaney

Dunshaughlin and Royal Gaels sends congratulations to our own Mairéad Delaney as she steps down as Meath county secretary after five demanding years in the role. Mairéad had a long and successful apprenticeship as secretary of St Martins between 1997 and 2001 followed by four years as secretary of Dunshaughlin. She spent a number of years as county board assistant secretary before stepping up to the main role. She was a trail-blazer for female involvement at the highest level of the GAA, being the first female secretary of our club and the first female ever to hold the prestigious and demanding post of county secretary.

Noted for her hard work, dedication and organizational skills Mairéad, as a voluntary officer of the board, spent countless hours at HQ in Dunganny. She was the ideal person at the helm throughout the Covid pandemic, when she dealt with and advised clubs on a raft of novel and unprecedented challenges, such as return to play protocols, limits on attendances and ticket only games.  Clubs had reason to be grateful to her for her knowledge of and guidance on all the issues that GAA clubs face. She was also to the fore in the sale of tickets for the Páirc Tailteann house draws, probably outselling everyone else.

Mairéad is never afraid to speak her mind and express her views with honesty and integrity, and, on behalf of the entire Dunshaughlin & Royal Gaels community, we congratulate you on your service, wish you well as newly appointed Leinster Council delegate and hope we and other clubs in the county continue to benefit from your wise counsel and advice.

Congratulations also to our club chairman Frank Gallogly who has completed a five-year stint as Meath referees’ co-ordinator. He has been responsible for the recruitment and training of many new referees while he is also responsible for the appointment of officials to all games in the county. Under his stewardship the Referees’ Committee ensured linesmen were appointed at all adult championship games. In 2022, there were 1,368 adult games in the county, all of which required a referee and getting them appointed was a major achievement. Comhghairdeas Frank.
