Kilmainhamwood, kitted out in their brand-new jerseys, were the first out of the blocks with points from Kian Gillespie and Dave Russell, before Paddy Carolan scored straight from a long-range ball into the square.
It took the Brigids 15 minute to register their first score. They buried to the net after the initial shot rebounded off the cross bar.
The remainder of the half was an exhibition of long-range point scoring from Dave Russell. He was to kick 5 points from play, each one better than the last, and left the Brigids with a mountain to climb at half time, with the Wood taking an 8-point advantage.
The Brigids reduced the deficit to 7 points on 35 mins before Peewee Kiernan extended the lead to 8 again after 36 mins.
However, this is when the Brigids started to turn their possession onto the Scoreboard. They went onto dominate the rest of the game, scoring 1- 7 without reply. The Wood didn’t register another score, a Paddy Carolan free, until injury time in the 2nd half.
Kilmainhamwood will rue letting an 8 point half time lead slip, but the Brigids will also feel they should have been alot closer on the scoreboard, kicking 13 wides in total and missing a couple of guilt edge goal chances.
The defeat now leaves Kilmainhamwood with a mammoth task to try and qualify from the group, but will be hoping a few more injuries will have cleared up in that time.
