The late Patsy O'Brien

The death has taken place of former Drumree footballer Patsy O'Brien. Patsy won a Meath JFC medal in 1959 and an IFC medal two years later.

The club paid tribute to Patsy on social media.

Drumree GAA were saddened to hear about the death of Patsy O'Brien. When the Drumree club was reformed in 1957, Patsy was one of the players who returned after Dunshaughlin had been beaten in the 1956 intermediate final. Patsy lined out at wing half back in the junior championship winning team in 1959 and again in the Intermediate championship winning team in 1961, alongside his brothers Larry and Dickie.

His sons David, Patrick and Vincent all later played football with Drumree.

1959 Meath Junior Football Championship winners. (Patsy is at the back, third from the left).

Patsy will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help anyone in need. He had a great enthusiasm for life and interest in everyone he met. He had a natural ability to genuinely talk with ease to people of all ages. He loved his horse racing, football and travel which happily he did extensively with Mary.

Drumree GAA offer their sincere sympathy and condolences to Mary, David, Patrick, Vincent, Ciara and Barry and the extended family.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Patsy' funeral mass took place yesterday Thursday February 4th at Culmullen Church with burial in Knockmark Cemetery afterwards.
