The sad passing of Madge McEntee

February 03, 2020

The late Margaret McEntee

Meath senior football manager Andy McEntee and his family are mourning the passing of their mother, Margaret (Madge), which occurred this morning.

The McEntee name is synonymous with gaelic football in Nobber and Meath and as the matriarch of the family, Madge (nee O’Brien) was her sons' biggest supporter and had every reason to be proud of their long list of great achievements on and off the field.

Gerry was, of course, a two-time All-Ireland winning midfielder in the late eighties and acted as a selector for two years after younger brother Andy was appointed Meath manager in late 2016.

Larry McEntee is a driving force behind the local Nobber club while grandsons, James and Shane, are current members of the Royal County senior football squad.

Grand-daughter Helen McEntee is a Fine Gael TD and the current Minister of State for European Affairs. Helen’s late father, Shane, was also a Fine Gael TD and enjoyed much success as a manager on the local club scene.

Pre-deceased by her husband, Tony, and son, Shane, Madge is survived by daughter, Mary (Furlong, Summerhill), sons, Alan (Trim), Gerry (Castleknock), Larry (Nobber), Jimmy (Castletown), Tony (Curragha), and Andrew (Dunboyne), daughters-in-law, Trudi, Yvonne, Kathleen, Aileen, Dolores, Catherine, and Rosanne, all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, and many friends.

May She Rest In Peace.

Funeral arrangements:

Reposing at her own home in Nobber village, Tuesday from 12 noon. Removal from her home at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening to the Church of St. John the Baptist, Nobber. Funeral mass Wednesday at 2 o'clock, with burial afterwards in the local cemetery.
