Ratoath's senior hurlers got their first points on the board in this 2nd round league game played in wintry conditions on Sunday in Brownstown against Kilmessan.
Playing with the wind in the first half the home side quickly got into their rhythm and playing some slick hurling went into a 1-6 to no score lead after 7 minutes.
After that Kilmessan stemmed the tide and with a number of points from frees gained a foothold in the game. Ratoath's scores dried up with just 2 more points until half time to lead 1-8 to 0-4 at the break..
The second half was a much more low scoring affair that was brought to life with 2 goals from the visitors between the 45th and 50th minute. Ratoath held on with a couple of insurance points to carve out a deserved 5 point win .

Ratoath raced in to a 1-6 to 0-0 lead before Darren Reilly put the visitors on the scoreboard. Reilly accounted for his teams opening half tally as the home side went in at the break 1-8 to 0-4 in front.
Kilmessan were reduced to 13 men in the second half, losing Niall Thynne to a second yellow and Darren Reilly to a straight red. Substitute Ger O'Neill got in for his teams second goal but it was too late as Ratoath went on to record their first win.
