Think 8 to 10 is a bit optimistic. ParcT (Meath) - Posts: 21 - 06/07/2024 11:35:26 2557169 Link 1 |
Could you explain to us how 'tradition' might win us an all Ireland?? Or indeed high population?? Do you think that might land us an all Ireland someday? royalproxy (Meath) - Posts: 44 - 06/07/2024 12:07:41 2557176 Link 3 |
Well Meath are proof that tradion and population don't guarantee all irelands, but surely to have both helps the cause more then hinders it. Things can sometimes change fast hopefully by the end of this decade Meath can be competitive again.

You more or less state that tradition and population could land an all Ireland 'hopefully' in 8 to 10 years . How though? royalproxy (Meath) - Posts: 44 - 06/07/2024 17:16:53 2557238 Link 3 |
Can only put 15 men on the pitch, putting a few wins together would be realistic progress.

Do I seriously have to explain the numbers game to you, the more kids playing a particular game the greater the chance of finding a few gems, for example when was the last time a county with less then 100 thousand won the football all ireland, and when was the last time a traditional hurling county won the football all ireland.

Tradition means little, maybe when we played old school football. However for whatever reason we have gotten left benind as game evolved. Has increase in population added greatly to playing numbers, especially the further we move from Dublin border and do additional numbers add up to more players wanting to play for Meath? Future success may depend on getting these people involved, chicken and egg springs to mind.

Meath wont win an All-Ireland for the foreseeable future. We are in the wilderness. Young_gael (Meath) - Posts: 596 - 14/09/2024 11:08:45 2569809 Link 3 |
A more meaningful question should be when will Meath actually be competitive again with the best team in the country. We should really be looking to do that in the next three years and why not? Nobody knows who will win the All Ireland next but perhaps its still only a handful of teams and definitely not Meath. Meath need to start making up ground and fast. Once they are competitive with the best teams consistently, anything can happen but need rapid improvement starting next year. winatallcost (Meath) - Posts: 587 - 14/09/2024 13:38:33 2569828 Link 0 |
If only if was that simple! Bottom line it comes down to organisation and structure and development of players! We as a county have fallen way behind in that regard! Smaller counties than us - Tyrone, Monaghan have developed better teams, panels and systems in the past 20 years! Tradition only counts in history - armaghs tradition - 1 all ireland in 2002! I'd say it will be a while before we pass them out! Current players care less about tradition than ever before! Population is great but only if harnessed right! And our players living next to the best facilitated team in the country, when they are so poorly facilitated is not great for morale! I played at a golf fundraiser for the county recently and a Dublin panel member showed up in a sponsored Skoda while one of our starting players showed up in a 12 year old Vw! The playing field is not even! Not just on the pitch but behind the teams! The counties with the most professional structures are faring best - those without good structures are being left behind!

The answer to your questions: A) Offaly in 1982. B) Cork in 2010. Ollie2 (Louth) - Posts: 911 - 26/09/2024 09:39:25 2571896 Link 4 |
I think its time that Skyrne lets the COR thing go. I know there is a thing called looking out for your own but he has been in Simonstown nearly longer than Tara. Nothingbutthetruth (Meath) - Posts: 67 - 08/10/2024 22:56:30 2573797 Link 0 |
