New pitches in Dunganny

Replying To 49erroyal:  "Absolute disgrace in Dunganny tonight. U15 FL Division 1 and 4 finals played side by side on pitches with no fences and spectators stepping over the line. There were no flags on either the sidelines or at the goals. Mentors from one team lifted the flags from Pitch 6 to mark pitch 5.
Both games were draws and the fixtures were winners on the night so extra time and then penalties. Extra time couldn't be played in either game as their were no floodlights and it was getting dark.-
Really poor form. A club would be sanctioned if it hosted a final and was so slap-shod.."
It sure is absolutely disgrace. Even adult games been there it's ridiculous.
Clubs around Meathtrying their best to either upgrade pitches and the grounds around it to a stander to host games and then you look at the shambles's in dunganny!

That's an absolute disgrace. First of all, these underage finals should be in Pairc Tailteann to give these great young lads a sense of achievement. Failing that, there are so many excellent clubs with amazing facilities that could be used. Given the finals allowed for extra time there was no excuse that they were played on pitches without floodlights. Add in the fact that there was always going to be big crowds at these games, playing them here was astonishing.
Now, I wrote in the champo thread about the Dunsany/Moynalvey IFC. I think its a disgrace that a game of such magnitude is being played here just for the reason of tighter control on ticketing and access.

Dunganny is great as a centre of excellence and we should be very proud of it but is not designed to hold games of this size. A rethink by the county board is needed.

This is typical of Meath county board and the GAA in general. The only reason so many games are in Dunganny is because they have full control of ticket sales, same with the amount of games being played in Navan with just a few hundred people in attendance. If these games were in a club ground people would arrive with cash only and be let in, club keeps the money then.

Look at all the club grounds in the county that have pumped hundreds of thousands of euros into their grounds over the last number of years (Boardsmill most recently with their fantastic new lights) and all they get is a game or two played in their grounds all year. All because of greed within the county board. What incentive have those clubs got to keep improving if they dont get any games?

No reason why thoes two games and also important hurling and football games are not spread around all thoes grounds where the facilities are top class and the atmosphere is 100 times better.

was at a few games there this yr,
While the new pitches are excellent, its not ready fo championship games yet. Thee were no Dug outs (Solved now i hear) ,
Score board not swithed on fo some reason, Tempoay fencing etc.
No Umpires or linesmen so clubs had to ask spectators who had already paid in to help out.
if a club did this they would neve get games again.
a big safety issue is the ammount of traffic that was still trying to get in just before throw in, they need to move where they scan the tickets and allow cars into the car park and scan the tickets as people walk up to the pitch.

Dunganny is a great facility , unfortunately not a standard just yet to host championship matches or underage finals, particularly for supporters. if patrons attending games at club grounds is the issue with regards to gate receipts can the county board staff the clubs gates instead of dunganny; clubs who provide grounds all around the country offer better service ,more comfortable experience, it's a pity they are been over looked

Should not be holding championship matches, end of. I'd say spectators got some soaking there over the weekend, as no shelter. They got away with it when the weather was good. Give it the games to the clubs that put so much work in to have there pitches and facilities up to it.

What club pitches in Meath have covered area for spectators? I've only been to a few but Donoghmore Ashbourne has a nice stand though I didn't see a match from it. Lovely terrace at Simonstown but no shelter. Stamullen and Carnaross has good viewing from upstairs in the clubhouse but very few could fit in there and you need a crowd close to pitch for some atmosphere. Probably a good few clubs have viewing from upstairs in clubhouse. Besides that what are good clubs for atmosphere at games?
