this smacks of a total lack of planning, understanding & forward thinking.
the circumstances are that either, the chap was 100% committed to a GAA future...or was Playing GAA , but really his dream was a professional Soccer path...either way...WE (meath Management that is) ...should have known...and im certain a thorough in depth conversation with the Chap would have gave that insight..so three options. based on the "learning" form that Conversation with him...1. Andy brings him into panel with commitment to long term plan by both to develop into a quality county player ..2. Andy leaves him out of panel and wishes him well in his pursuit of soccer career...or 3....Andy gambles...brings him in "in the hope" that We get a few good results ...and the player on seeing this Commits....Option 1 or 2 imo are fine...taking option 3 is a disaster

In this day and age, I imagine it is very difficult to get young lads to commit long term to amature team sports. O Reilly made it clear Covid restrictions in Italy was reason he returned home. Hard to blame managment for bringing him in, even in short term. Had we got promotion all would be good
Would we refuse the assistance of Nash or other lads who went to Oz, even if only for championship? Its a no win option for manager, play best available or only players who commit long term. Pros and cons for both.

totall..id hope he would...jezuz lad....we can build on sand...this short term thinking is bananas....and no disrespect to you on this as everyone is entitled to an opinion...but can you imagine what that does to an organisation...."we are all in this together"...well actually some of us are not entirely.....and this is no fault at all of the lad involved .or criticism of his choices....this si purely a debate about how we build a structure to get us to the Top table..and remain there ...within 5 years

No offence taken, I just think its getting harder year on year to get lads to commit long term. True some counties manage this, mainly the ones who have a chance of success. Would majority of panel be happy with one or two lads coming and going if it meant promotion or silverware at end of season? Not saying its the way forward, but its a problem thats lightly to arise more often in these times of rising prices and more opportunites abroad.
