Ratoath won minor in 2011 & 2012 (should have won in 2010 as well) but we only won the intermediate in 2015. It was only 2019 that this group of players came of age with winning the senior title. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 12/11/2021 13:36:31 2389197 Link 16 |
Cilles rack up another Minor Title....

Only won the inter?? I wouldnt say "Only" . . takes a huge effort to get out of intermediate And a Lot of those minors Minors back boned the Junior win in 2012 . . So Id say that helped the lads introduction to Adult Football in terms of getting used to the physicality and the quality getting stepped up every few years . If Cilles can get lads to stay interested and stay hungry they will go far but it will take a lot as theres only 15 spots available lagoreX (Meath) - Posts: 222 - 16/11/2021 09:54:44 2389595 Link 0 |
I take it what the poster meant by "only" was that it took several years after their minor wins for them to win the Intermediate, not that the Intermediate was a small achievement.

As CastleBravo said, my point was more that you can't expect a talented minor team to make a serious impact at a high level of adult football within a couple of years, not denigrating our achievement at winning the intermediate in 2015. Our golden generation of minor players needed 3 years to make it out of the intermediate and another 4 years to win the Keegan Cup. I believe that this is now Cilles' golden generation coming through and it will take time for them to make an impact at senior level. They'll be there or thereabouts within 5 years or so I'd wager. interesting tweet doing the rounds on average time for a relegated Senior Club to get back up from intermediate in meath since (i think 1990) ...sobering to say the least for clubs who do fall

A lot of that Ratoath minor team would of initially backboned the Junior A Winning team of 2012 so this would of been an ideal introduction to adult football quality and physicality wise .Once they went intermediate they were knocking on the door and won it out within 3 years, so if you map it out it was over a period of 10 years from 2010 gradually getting better and stronger and then they were lucky with other factors like quality of manager , Quality of training /Conditioning ,winning silverware keeps a lot of them interested , quality of other opposition teams during this era etc However having brilliant underage teams is not guarantee of Senior Success, Donaghmore had a golden period in Minor that ultimately just fell short of the big one and I remember Dunderry had a brilliant 3 in a row U21 Div 1 team that looked like it could dominate for years to come but it was during Dunshaughlins Dominance so they couldnt make the breakthrough , likewise with Donaghmore who had with the great NOM team in their way In saying this though I would be surprised if Cilles dont win a Senior Championship within 10 years lagoreX (Meath) - Posts: 222 - 17/11/2021 22:05:31 2389804 Link 0 |

Just coming back on this! Ruairi obviously decided to stay in USA for 2022 along with Shane Finnegan! NOM would have loved to have had them both I have no doubt!

I had heard last year that Ruairi was staying put - so not surprised! Hard to know how the relegation game will go! I think Senechalstown having won their first game have looked a little more competitive! Personally, I'd like to see O'Mahonys stay up but I don't think they will!!

Longwood man talking garbage again. O'Mahonys were relegated in 1999,bounced back in 2003 winning IFC. Also Blackhall got relegated in 2000 i think. They won IFC in 2002.

Tough game to call I think it might come down to what team will be effected more by the suspension of their players Brian Maguire or Dougie Dillon Jpjohnny (Meath) - Posts: 13 - 05/10/2022 18:32:44 2442921 Link 0 |

Blackhall Gaels went straight back up to Senior winning the Intermediate Championship in 2001 after been relegated in 2000.

I see St Pats Navan played today. 20 players used and none of them from Navan O'Mahony's or Simonstown. That is unbelievable to me. I know that Navan have what should be a very good minor team next year. But they're in intermediate next year and probs won't be close to favourites. What has happened the production line of the 2 Navan clubs? LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1523 - 26/10/2022 17:18:17 2445542 Link 6 |
