New Corona Virus Restrictions

(Oldest Posts First)

I think with the crazy decision today by the Government not to allow any spectators at outdoor sporting events, it will be the first time since the pandemic started that the public will not support government advice as the vast majority of the public are not convinced that this measure is based on any scientific evidence in relation to the rise in Covid numbers. It's a distraction to take pressure of the government who still after all this time have not sorted out delays in testing. Take action where it is needed at the root of the problem.
You rightly have the Leader of the Labour Party tonight calling it a stupid decision.
So the new government advice is you can't let anyone attend (not even 200) an outdoor venue that can host 80,000 people but yet considers it safe to have over 1000 people to be inside the one building (schools) for over 6 hours every day, hundreds and thousands of schools.
There is absolutely no logic and no science to decisions made today and they will lose the goodwill of the people with wreck less decision making, every person I have spoke this evening are disappointed and disgusted at the government decision, I spoke to over 50 people this evening and not one can see the logic including front line workers. I welcome the fact the GAA are seeking evidence that outdoor games has led to Covid cases. The GAA must make a very strong case to overturn this decision. But we all know when government make a decision, no matter how bad they will stick by their decision no matter what. The mental health of so many has been and will be affected very negatively by this decision.

I'm all for good well thought out restrictions to help reduce the spread of the virus. This is not well though out and makes no sense and seriously damages the governments credibility. Indoor events such as mass and restaurants are allowed continue but small outdoor events are not. Full games are allowed to continue behind closed doors but training is limited to 15. Makes no sense whatsoever.

The imbeciles spend three and a half hours in a meeting and come up with this, there is 0% cases through transmission from Gaa supporters, yes rumors are that house parties take place after games all over the country so if the Gaa are causing the spread just pull the plug on it altogether, i am absolutely disgusted with this decision from these Muppets who no idea what they are doing

Is there a conversation to be had about cancelling all competitive adult football and hurling championship matches in the county until spectators are allowed back into grounds?
The Gaa is held up as the model community organisation in Ireland, the lads carrying the water bottles, the u14 manager and senior players are all as important as each other within the club.
I understand the benefit of lads playing matches and exercising for their own heath and mental health, so with that in mind the A and B leagues could be played and even if needs be play another cup too to fill up space and keep lads ticking over.
I realise too the pressure with fixtures and it may not be possible to re-schedule championships later on this year/next year.
I just think it would be a nightmare for so many true gaels to miss out on watching their clubs play. the 200 limit was tough enough, even if that had stayed imagine come the business end of championships the disappointment for people not making the cut to go to semi finals and finals.
Imagine Kells wining the keegan and all the last few years of hurt banished but with nobody from the town there to experience it.
what if Trim win the Jubilee and possibly the double with intermediate football, what a shame for everyone to miss out on once in a lifetime experiences.
Or if kilmanham, one of the smallest parishes in the county were to reach the promised land of senior football in an empty pairc tailteann.
I know most players will want to play away, especially those with the chance to win something and fair enough.
Another factor is that any team who does win something, are they not going to celebrate? coppers and the palace mightn't be open but you can be sure a group of lads training away all year whp wins a championship will find a way to party. restrictions or not.

All championships should be postponed

I just think it would be horrendous to win a championship in an empty Pairc Tailteann. Realistically, what's the point? If you win an Intermediate Championship in particular, and you go up to Senior next year, you will hardly remember the journey along the way of winning the championship. No supporters at the game, no celebrations on the pitch after, no dinner after and no celebrations at the local pub after, or the week celebrating with your friends, no provincial championship journey after winning your county championship? I really think Meath should have followed Dublin and Galway's route and gone with no promotion or relegation in any grade this year. Its not a normal season, it would in no way be the same winning a championship and getting promoted this year and may damage you going forward next year. Also, if a club ended up being relegated from their particular grade in this season of all season's you would be absolutely sickened, and in my opinion not fair. I am all for having games on but maybe we should have just played games to keep players ticking over but not have any major consequences, good or bad, riding on them.

Yep, definitely. It's a surreal feeling being at games as it is, with 200 allowed. It'll be completely anti-climatic at the remaining games, they will be similar to a training session. Surely that'll feed into the players mindsets too. On another note, if championships were't to finish this year, which is possible given the circumstances, could we see them being finished off next February or so?
