Kiltale's Mark O'Sullivan - hoganstand.com/meath Senior Hurler of the Year
Kiltale won their first Jubilee Cup since 2007 when defeating Killyon in the decider. Kilmessan failed to make it to the semi-finals for the first year in a long time while Longwood surprised many by reaching the semi final stages.

There are five contenders for this award. Not surprisingly three of them are from the county champions - Mark O'Sullivan, Padraig Donoghue and Shane McGann. Also up for the award are Longwood's Damien Healy and Killyon's Thomas Raleigh.

Killyon's run to this year's decider was based on a very solid defence. The experience of goalkeeper Stephen Quinn, full back Brian Perry and team captain Paddy Ryan proved vital but the club's stand out player right through the campaign was half back Tommy Raleigh. A Meath minor in 2010, Raleigh gave a masterclass in defensive play along with going forward for his own scores. His two points against Longwood in the semi-final were outstanding scores.

Mark O'Sullivan really sparkled in this year's championship. Operating on the half forward line O'Sullivan was one of the top scorers throughout the campaign. He is a nightmare for defences with his pace, accuracy and ability to strike from both sides. Like Kiltale O'Sullivan really came to the fore after the group stages, with 1-2 against Dunboyne in the quarter final, 1-2 against defending champions Kildalkey in the semi-final and a crucial 1-3 in the decider against Killyon. It's only a matter of time that Mark is a regular fixture on the Meath senior hurling team.

Longwood made it to this year's semi-final only to lose out to Killyon after extra time. In what was a very strong squad performance Damien Healy was their stand out player. Equally at home in defence or midfield, Healy was a dominant figure as Longwood made it out of the group and defeated Kilmessan in the quarter-final. One of the stars in lasts years All-Ireland MHC B win, Healy was a regular fixture in Cillian Farrell's team.

Goalkeeper Shane McGann was in brilliant form yet again for Kiltale and Meath. Some of his saves this year were from the top drawer. Kiltale just about made it out of the 'group of death' but from the quarter-final onwards McGann and Co were unbeatable. Despite conceding two goals in the quarter-final, Shane kept a clean sheet in both semi-final and final. His puck outs were the launching pad for many Kiltale scores.

Padraig Donoghue proved just how an important figure he is to Kiltale hurling. Time and again the veteran Donoghue was the rock on which many opposition attacks perished. Equally at home on the football pitch, Padraig was immense in the semi-final win over four in a row chasing Kildalkey. To put the icing on the cake, captain Donoghue raised the Jubilee Cup after final day victory over Killyon. The Donoghues and the captaincy role seem to go hand in hand. Padraig captained Moynalvey to the JFC in 2008 and Kiltale to this year's senior while his brother Stephen captained Kiltale to senior honours in 2007 and Moynalvey to the IFC last year.

Our award goes to Mark O'Sullivan.
