Meath Hill GAA club is in mourning following the tragic death of Niall Tully in a motorbike accident at Cloughrea on Saturday evening.

The 20 year old was a member of the club's first team and was intending to travel to the north Meath outfit's JFC D final against Longwood on Saturday evening when tragedy struck.

The final was abandoned at half-time when news of Niall's untimely passing reached Pairc Tailteann.

A son of John and Ann Tully, Niall was the youngest in a family of three boys and older brothers Ronan and Mark also play for Meath Hill.

Local parish priest Fr Finian Connaughton told The Irish Daily Star: "All I can say is that Niall was a very pleasant, decent young fella.

"It appears the accident happened as he was on his way home on his motorbike. He was due to go to watch Meath Hill play in the final, but he wasn't going to travel to that game on his motorbike as he was to get a lift off a friend.

"Sadly he never made it to the final. His death is a terrible tragedy for his family, the club and whole area. Niall was a very talented footballer, he was one of the best at the club."

The accident happened at 6.30pm at Cloughrea and Niall was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he was later pronounced dead.
