Drumconrath/Meath Hill's Conor O'Halloran
Drumconrath/Meath Hill won a very close and exciting semi final against St. Patrick's at sunny Drumconrath.
Drumconrath/Meath Hill 2-8
St Patrick's 1-7
Excellent underfoot conditions on the dry sod of St Peter's Park Drumconrath led to a very good semi final with some top class football played throughout. An outstanding display by St Patrick's 'Keeper John Curtis kept the game close as he pulled off at least 6 super saves. While Curtis was probably man of the match he was followed closely by the combinations left half back Conor O'Halloran who was instrumental in setting up numerous scores for the home side.
DMH started well with points from Ian Malone and Shane McCabe but by 15 minutes in Pats had pushed ahead with a point and then a good goal by midfielder Sean Mooney. By the 20 minute DMH had equalized with a Colm McEvoy goal and points from Malone and Noel Russell had the teams level at the break.
A feature of the 3rd quarter was the fact that no team scored as the teams severed good fair with Curtis having a major say in that. Pats eventually broke the deadlock with a well worked score but this seemed to spark the Red and Blue into action as Luke Doran and Malone again pointed to take the lead. Malone eventually beat the Pats keeper when he blasted home from close range and indeed Curtis made a great effort to keep the ball out. Points from McCabe and Tomas Conlon left the home side 6 points to the good as Pats notched the last two scores of the game and had a goal chance but the home sides defense held solid with OHalloran and Ryan Owens heroic.
Drumconrath/Meath Hill - Dominic Yorke; Martin Meegan, Ryan Owens; Jonathon Byrne, Edward Cassidy, Conor OHalloran; Shane McCabe (0-2), Tomas Conlon (0-1); Noel Russell (0-1), Ian Malone (1-3), Colm McEvoy (1-0); Luke Doran (0-1), James Mooney. Subs Matthew Carolan for Meegan, Aine ONeill for Mooney, Aisling Mooney for Russell.
