Na Fianna 5-12 Killary Emmets 4-12

Na Fianna gained their first win in the Minor Football Championship as they hung on to claim the win over a battling Killary Emmets side in Enfield on Wednesday.

Having lost their opening round against Gaeil Colmcille, Na Fianna knew they had to win to stay in contention for a knockout place.

They started well and had the better of the opening exchanges. Some squandered goal chances allowed Killary back into the game and led to a half time score of 2-04 to 1-09 in favour of the visitors.

Both sides traded scores in the second half but Na Fianna opened up a six point lead with eight minutes remaining. The visitors saw two penalties missed, one off the post and one excellently saved by Tiernan Clinton as they bombarded the Na Fianna goal. However, Na Fianna hung on with resolute defending to claim the win.

Next up for Na Fianna is a winner take all game against St Michael’s/Nobber in Enfield in two weeks with the winner progressing to the semi final.
