Moynalvey’s Monday evening trip to Longwood saw them come away with a seven point victory over the host side in this Meath Cleaning Supplies Junior All County Football Championship Div. 6 Round 2 game.

Having had a bye in round one Moynalvey’s seconds got their championship campaign underway with a seven point victory over Longwood on Monday evening 24th August.

The game was played fourteen a side owing to Longwood’s limited numbers and it was Moynalvey who were in control throughout leading from the throw in and never looked in any danger of being headed throughout.

The men in maroon had four points scored by Shane Lenehan, Luke Duffy and a Conor Quinn two pointer by the time Longwood opened their account in the 11th minute with a Malachy Fisher point.

A further trio of Moynalvey points from Aaron McCabe, Evan Drum and Adam Roooney left it 0-7 to 0-1 midway through the half.

Longwood sent over a two pointer with Moynalvey responding with a second of the evening for Shane Lenehan. Ben McLoughlin sent over Longwood’s fourth point, with Moynalvey’s Evan Drum rounding off the first half scoring with a point in the 29th minute to leave the score 0-9 to 0-4 at half time.

A trio of Moynalvey points after the break from Conor Quinn who fielded the kickout and drove forward to point, Ronan Thompson with help of Longwood goalkeeper Frank Scully’s hand and an Evan Drum free after he was fouled left eight between the sides, 0-12 to 0-4 six minutes into the second half.

A William Phillips point followed by a Longwood goal brought the village side back into the contest, four now between the sides, 0-12 to 1-5.

Moynalvey substitute Ray Ryan pointed almost immediately after being introduced and Ryan was again involved in the build up to Moynalvey’s goal with another substitute Aaron Sweeney coolly finishing low past Longwood ‘keeper Frank Scully. Evan Drum added another to his tally when fisting over after receiving a neat pass from Conor Byrne to leave it 1-14 to 1-5 with fifty three minutes played.

Three Longwood points from Ben McLoughlin and a brace from William Phillips narrowed the deficit to six, but it was Ray Ryan with a superb point from the right wing for the game’s final score to leave the full time score 1-15 to 1-8 in favour of Moynalvey.

Best for Moynalvey were Conor Quinn, Evan Drum, Darragh Branigan, Shane Lenehan and Harry Dunne.
