The Oldcastle team that defeated Dunderry
Oldcastle 1-17, Dunderry 1-08
A great start for Oldcastle this evening in Dunderry, with Robbie Farrelly pointing from the first play of the ball. Good work from Conor Delaney soon after saw the ball on via Ronan Maguire, to Lee Healy, to Robbie, over to Keith Connell, to Paddy Rahill, back to Conor, back to Paddy, to Lee, on via Mikey Timmons, back to Lee, over to Garrett O’Reilly, to Mikey, back to Garrett and over the bar! A free from Robbie for the next score, and all the while Cillian Connell and Sean Maxwell were exerting maximum pressure on their men and making scoring impossible. It was Ronan Maguire next on the scoreboard for Oldcastle, before a lovely sideline ball in from Mikey Timmons found Lee Healy who clipped her over for a two-pointer. Six points up for Oldcastle, but Dunderry finally started their scoring, with a goal!
The kickout to Dunderry was interrupted by a fine Cillian Connell intercept, fed on via Ronan Maguire, Lee Healy, Garrett O’Reilly and finally to Darren Hawdon, having a great match, and who coolly shot her to the back of the next! Six point advantage restored! Rian Mulvanny’s kickouts were long and accurate, Paddy Rahill and Ross Cadden combining to win most of them.
Dunderry added a point, Mikey Timmons adding one then for Oldcastle. Garrett, Lee and Robbie added one more apiece before the break, leaving it Oldcastle 1-10, Dunderry 1-02 at half time.
A quick Dunderry attack and point to start the second half, followed by a quick free, but Oldcastle regrouped and pushed on. Another great intercept from Cilian Connell fed on to the flying Robbie Smith, to Conor Delaney, back to Cillian on a run, and a nice pass to brother Keith who tipped her over, a nice point! Robbie Farrelly and Conor Delaney added one apiece. Darren Hawdon with a great intercept next, on via Cillian, to Paddy Rahill and Louis Colleran, to Keith, on to Robbie and Conor, to Mikey, back to Darren, to Robbie again, over to Keith and finally to Ronan Maguire for the point. The kickout was taken down by Paddy Rahill, the ball eventually finding Louis Colleran, he turned to score, was busted to the ground, but still managed to get her over the bar!
Another point each for Conor and Lee; Dunderry added a few consolation points near the end but Oldcastle were never in any danger, making the win look easy. Great to see scores coming from so many positions, and to see so many lads back on the pitch tonight, from abroad, from short term injury, and from long term!
