In a high-scoring match in Paddy O’Brien Park on Sunday morning, Trim came out on top in the second round of the JACFC Div 1. 

Jack Flynn kept the umpires busy from the start, with a point almost immediately from the throw-in. Trim responded with a point before Tiarnán Black and Jack Bellamy pointed from play.  A goal from Evan Cully after a good side-step was followed by a point from his brother Tom five minutes later. After Ciaran Vaughan set up a Sean Smyth point, six separated the sides before Trim found the net.

O’Mahony’s responded well with Bellamy kicking a two-pointer free and Smyth scoring from play. Eoin Joyce scored a point and Tom Cully matched his brother’s goal to give O’Mahony’s a nine-point advantage on the twenty minute mark. Although Joyce kicked a two-pointer before half time, the visitors added 1-03 to leave five between the sides at the break – 2-11 to 2-06.

Bellamy extended the lead for O’Mahony’s but Trim went on to dominate much of the second half, reducing the gap down to two five minutes into the second half. After an Evan Cully point, Trim kicked three in a row to draw level before taking the lead for the first time in the fortieth minute.

Trim extended the lead before Ben Forde made it a one-point game again. This was repeated when Trim kicked a score and Bellamy drew one back. Trim finished the game strongly, scoring the last 1-03 and having seven points spare at Ian Dowdall’s final whistle.
