Curraha 2-17, St. Brigid’s 1-13
Curraha got their JFC ambitions back on track with a hard-fought win over a dogged St. Brigid’s side at Kilmainham on Friday evening. Curraha made a bright start with Jack O’Connor scoring two early frees, one of which was a two pointer. James McEntee converted a 45 and Diarmuid Moriarty added a point from play to leave Curraha leading by five points to no score after ten minutes. St. Brigid’s then settled into the game and despite further points for Curraha from Ruairi O’Sullivan and Moriarty the north Meath side took the lead near the end of the first half. However, another pointed free from O’Connor and one from play from Moriarty restored Curraha’s lead before the break.
Half time score: Curraha 0-9, Brigid’s 0-8.
Curraha increased their lead early in the second half with two points from Niall McLarnon, another free from O’Connor and a fine two pointer from Moriarty. St. Brigid’s responded with three points to leave just three points between the sides. Midways through the second half Curraha hit a purple patch. Andrew Coyle who had just joined the fray as a substitute scored his sides first goal. This was quickly followed by a goal and a point from O’Sullivan and then a point from Eoghan Burke to give Curraha an eleven-point lead. It was fitting that Curraha’s last point was scored by man of the match contender Padraic O’Hanrahan. St. Brigid’s scored two late points and a goal deep into injury time, but Curraha held on for a seven-point victory.
