Nobber 1-12
Drumbaragh 2-16
Drumbaragh picked up another valuable win on the road with a strong team performance away to Nobber in Round 5 of the Division 4 League.
The visitors opened brightly, John D Smith registering the first score of the morning before Drumbaragh settled into a good early rhythm. Although a few chances went astray, the work rate across the pitch was clear to see, particularly as the side adapted to Nobber’s short kick‑out strategy. Harry O’Higgins and Hughie Corcoran were prominent throughout, while the defensive line of Joe Carry, Luke Quinn, Adam O’Brien and company kept things tight at the back.
Scores from Hughie Corcoran helped keep Drumbaragh in front, with Smith and Shea McManus lively inside. Nobber struck for a well‑worked goal to stay in touch, but Drumbaragh responded well. A penalty awarded at the midway point of the first half for a foul on John D Smith looked like a key moment, only for Nobber's Dary Hutchinson to guess right and save from Corcoran. Undeterred Hughie converted the resulting ’45, and a well‑constructed team move finished by William Carry ensured a narrow half‑time lead — 0-10 to 1-05.
Drumbaragh restarted with intent, Corcoran adding to his tally, though two unnecessary fouls allowed Nobber to close the gap. The game’s decisive moment arrived shortly after a superb team goal beginning deep in defence and involving Carry, O’Higgins, McManus and William Carry before Smith applied the finish.
With momentum now firmly behind them, Drumbaragh pushed on. O’Higgins continued to drive the team forward, winning turnover after turnover, while Corcoran remained accurate from placed balls. Midfield dominance from McManus, Demange and O’Higgins set the platform for a second goal, this time finished with aplomb by Jack McCormack after another excellent passage of play.
Further chances came and went, including a near miss for a third goal, while Corcoran, who had to leave proceedings early for the airport, added another ’45 after Tom Tracey’s shot was blocked. Nobber battled gamely and briefly thought they had a goal from a quickly taken 14m free, but referee Paul Mooney correctly ruled it out. The final score of the contest came from Evan Demange to round off a strong second half showing from Drumbaragh to win 2-16 to 1-12.
A disciplined and hard‑working display from Drumbaragh, who showed plenty of patience and work rate throughout. Plenty of positives to build on heading into the next round.
