Kildalkey's Padraig Geoghegan

Killyon 0-17 Kildalkey 1-13

Kildalkey's third string hosted Killyon on Friday evening in this Div 4HL Round 3 fixture and lost out by a point after an entertaining hours hurling.

Kildalkey started slowly and it was Killyon who got a good start and scored some good points from play and frees hitting no wides in the half as the hosts were left to rue some bad misses themselves .

James Cully cut inside his man for the first point for the blues but Killyon had 4 on the board at that stage Mattie Cully Podger Geoeghan and James Cully again got scores for Kildalkey but again Killyon hit back and could have gotten a couple of goals only for some great saves from Seán Heavey and any frees given away were punished by Killyon freetaker Dylan Duignan who hit all his frees over the bar.

Mattie and James Cully hit a free each to close Kildalkey’s account for the half but they trailed 0-10 to 0-6.

Killyon pushed further ahead in the third quarter and led by 7 at one stage but Kildalkey dug in and got points back through James Cully with 3 frees Eoghan Monaghan, Podger Geoghegan and Michael Carr with 2 to trail 0-17 to 0-13 coming down the home straight. Ryan Byas scored a free to leave the minimum in it and with time almost up they pushed for an equaliser but it didn’t come as Killyon held out.

The blues hit a good few chances wide while Kilyon were much more economical and converted most of their chances.

Despite defeat the hosts battled to the end and never gave up right up to the final whistle which is all you can ask for.
