TJ Reid returned to the top of the hurling championship's scoring charts after netting Kilkenny’s fifth goal against Wexford at Nowlan Park this evening.
The Cats bounced back from their opening round Leinster SHC defeat to Galway last weekend by inflicting a 5-21 to 1-16 defeat on the Model men.
Reid’s goal in injury-time saw him breaking the all-time championship scoring record held by former Cork star Patrick Horgan.
With both marksman having traded the record over the past few years, Horgan had been 21 points ahead when he announced his retirement from inter-county duty following the conclusion of the 2025 season.
However, Reid’s 1-9 tally this evening sees him move up to 2-17 in this year’s championship thus far and he had now reclaimed the overall scoring record with total of 41-658 (781) to move ahead of Horgan's 32-683 (779).
Speaking to GAA+ afterwards, the Ballyhale Shamrocks clubman said the win over the Slaneysiders was what mattered most today.
“Ah look, it's grand, yeah,” he said. “It's nice to have, yeah, but we have more important things to be doing at this time of year.
