After a delayed start to the match due to extra time in a previous match, O’Mahony’s qualified for the final of the JACFC Div 4 with a six-point win over Clann na nGael.

Clayton O’Sullivan opened the scoring with a point almost immediately from the throw-in. Clann na nGael equalised three minutes later, before Ciaran McGuinness edged O’Mahony’s ahead again. A dangerous ball was heading towards the square only for an intervention from Eimhin Power in the eighth minute. Two minutes later, netminder Brían Yourell pulled off two great saves in one play before Jack Lafford saved the third attempt at goal and delivered the ball to safety.

In the thirteenth minute, O’Sullivan made a great run and burst to pull on the ball on the twenty yard line, keeping it along the ground and sending it to the net. Clann nan Gael responded quickly with a point from play but O’Mahony’s kept the scoreboard ticking over. O’Sullivan (with a two pointer), Conor McEvoy and Ben Forde all added scores and O’Mahony’s had a seven point advantage at the interval.

A goal from Tommy Carroll ensured that the game remained in O’Mahony’s control but there was no room for error as the score remained tight.

Clann nan Gael responded with two points before Kian McGee kicked an impressive score for O’Mahony’s. In the twelfth minute, Hugo Fitzherbert (after dropping a bottle of water to make his run) headed towards the Clann nan Gael goal but the ball was high and he had to settle for a point.
