Dunshaughlin 1-14 Wolfe Tones 1-11
Keegan Cup holders Dunshaughlin produced their best display of the championship so far with this three point win over Wolfe Tones at a windy and wet Pairc Tailteann.
Saran Ó Fionnagán got the new scoreboard working with a two pointer free. Luke Mitchell and Adam Kealy levelled matters but on the 10th minute the Tones were back in front courtesy of a Tom Gavigan goal, Eoin Donegan setting up the corner forward. With five minutes remaining in the half Dunshughlin were back on level terms, 0-7 to 1-4, thanks to a Conor Duke two pointer. Ross Gallagher and Mathew Costello traded points before Luke Mitchell with his 5th point sent the Keegan Cup holders to the dressing room 0-9 to 1-5 in front.
Ó Fionnagán levelled matters with the opening point of the second half before the games crucial score arrived. Midfielder Conor Grey danced through the Tones rearguard and gave keeper Ciaran O Gallachoir no chance with 20 minutes to go.
Wolfe Tones as they have done so often refused to go away and by the 18th minute they had the game level again with points from the outstanding Ó Fionnagán (2) and Conor Sheppard. Scores from Gavigan and Ó Fionnagán had Paddy Martin’s men 1-11 to 1-10 in front with six minutes remaining but from there on the holders found an extra gear. Duke, Costello and Mitchell pointed to open up a three poit advantage. The Tones came looking for a goal but the Black and Ambers defence were in no humour to cencede and they were on their way to a semi final date with Summerhill.
