All County IFC semi final: An all too familiar feeling for Dunboyne

Dunboyne's Lorcan Conway

St Peter's, Dunboyne...1-21 St Colmcille's...2-20 (A.E.T.)

Dunboyne produced some wonderful phases of play at times in the latest clash between the familiar foes in the All County IFC semi final at Tony Callaghan Park, Duleek on Sunday evening but, in a scenario that has been an all too familiar one for the club's teams this season they were unable to sustain it and were eventually worn down by the obdurate outfit from beside the sea.

Having played with the aid of the quite vicious wind that seemed to visit every pitch in the county over the weekend, the black and ambers led by 0-16 to 0-05 at half time in normal time. Thereafter, as would in fairness have been to be expected, the two shades of blue dominated proceedings in the second half, but in the 33rd minute thereof, Dunboyne somehow conjured a point to tie the scores at 0-19 to 2-13. Thus ensuring the epic weekend's football in the county lasted another 20 minutes at least.

Then, a goal from the prolific David Mahon which was followed quickly by a point left Dunboyne four clear in the very early stages of extra time. Alas, however, the pattern continued as has been the case in that, even though the sides did go point for point for much of the time which remained, at no stage were the eventual losers able to maintain a spell of supremacy.

Of course, the winners deserve copious credit for not allowing it to happen too, but, in reality, the lack of a little bit of composure that comes with a bit of age and experience ultimately undid a valiant effort. A tough one to take, but lessons banked to be put to use on better days ahead.
