Moynalvey's Padraic Harnan

Moynalvey advanced to the semi-finals of the Meade Farm Intermediate Football Championship at Dunsany’s expense following an impressive showing at Dunagnny on Sunday afternoon September 14th.

Moynalvey 4-21
Dunsany 0-14

A devastating first half performance from wind assisted Moynalvey laid the foundations for this impressive semi-final win, whereby they had 2-14 scored before last year’s junior champions opened their account in the 29th minute with an Eoin Harkin free.

First to register a score were Moynalvey with the impressive Hugh O’Sullivan sending over the first of his five points via a two pointer. That was followed up with points from David McLoughlin, Michael Brady and Craig Gilsenan, 0-4 to 0-0 after eight minutes.

The first of Moynalvey’s four green flags was raised when Adam murphy fielded a kickout in the middle of the field, a long ball was worked into Mark O’Sullivan which broke to David McLoughlin who made no mistake rifling past Niall Flynn in the Dunsany goals, 1-4 to 0-0.

The Moynalvey onslaught continued with points from Ciaran Harnan, Mark O’Sullivan (0-3, including a two Pointer), Hugh O’Sullivan, Cillian O’Sullivan (0-3, including a close range free when Niall Flynn was taking too long with his kickout) and David McLoughlin to leave it 1-13 to 0-0 with twenty four minutes played.

Moynalvey’s second goal came in the 24th minute when a Michael Brady shot was parried by Dunsany goalkeeper Niall Flynn only for it to fall into the path of Shane Lenehan who tucked the rebound into the corner of the net to make it 2-14 to 0-0 with twenty seven minutes played.

County player Eoin Harkin eventually opened Dunsany’s account with a free in the 29th minute.
Moynalvey added a further three points with a Craig Gilsenan point and a second two pointer of the afternoon from Hugh O’Sullivan. Dunsany added the final score of the opening half with their captain Harkin once again sending over another free before referee Robert Purfield blew his half time whistle, leaving the score board read 2-17 to 0-3.

Top scorer Harkin again scored for Dunsany twenty seconds after the restart, this time from play. Moynalvey’s opening score of the second half came from an Adam Murphy free into a tricky wind, followed up with a David McLoughlin point, leaving the score board read 2-19 to 0-3 three minutes into the second half.

Now with the wind at their backs Dunsany staged a purple patch of scoring of their own, started with an Eoin Harkin free, his third free of the afternoon, followed by a point from midfielder Lorcan Byrne; before Harkin took centre stage with the next four scores, two frees followed by two two pointers in a row to make it 2-19 to 0-11 after 42 minutes.

Moynalvey eventually stopped Harkin’s run with points from Cillian O’Sullivan and Adam Murphy. Another Dunsany free and a two pointer from Jack Cottrell left the score 2-21 to 0-14 on the sixty minute mark.

An extra piece of gloss was put on an already convincing win for the men in maroon with two late goals in added time from substitutes Vinny Walsh and Luke O’Halloran, meaning the full time score board read 4-21 to 0-14.

Best for the winners here were Hugh O’Sullivan, Padraic Harnan, Craig Gilsenan, Brian O’Reilly and Ciaran Harnan.
