Navan O’Mahony’s 1-11 Seneschalstown 0-07
Seneschalstown exited the Meath Cleaning Supplies Junior All-County Football Championship Division 1 at the semi-final stage following a tame second half performance against hosts Navan O’Mahony’s at lunchtime on Saturday.
The opening stages of the game suggested otherwise as Seneschalstown exploded from the traps. Almost straight away Jamie Norris kicked the opening score into the Aldi end of the Navan venue and seconds later the advantage was doubled when Seneschalstown picked up the break from the kickout and Seán Davis popped the ball over the bar.
In the 6th minute Seneschalstown were three ahead when Seán Carey got on the scoresheet and before those sixty seconds ticked by Seán Davis had his second after Seneschalstown profited from winning the O’Mahony’s kickout.
However, the tide slowly began to turn as the Hoops gained a strong foothold in the game and kicked three points in a row by the 17th minute to reduce the deficit to one. Seneschalstown replied with the next score after some quick thinking with a free on halfway between the Seáns, Carey and Davis gave the former the opportunity to curl over. However the hosts dominated the remainder of the and went it with a lead by the minimum margin, 0-06 to 0-05.
Things did not get any better for Seneschalstown after the resumption as the home side totally dictated the game. A further two points in the third quarter extended their lead as Seneschalstown could not convert at the other end before the games key score arrived in the 49th minute when O’Mahony’s got a goal to move six points ahead which was further added to by three further points. The last score of the game did go Seneschalstown’s way with Jamie Norris kicking a two point free but it was too little too late from a Seneschalstown point of view.
