Navan O’Mahony’s overcame a slow start to qualify for a place in the final of the JACFC Div 1 with a seven point win over Seneschalstown in Paddy O’Brien Park on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors were quick out of the blocks, scoring two points within the opening ninety seconds. Five minutes later, this was repeated with two more scores in quick succession. Twelve minutes had passed before O’Mahony’s got on the scoreboard courtesy of an Eoin Joyce free.

Seneschalstown hit a number of wides in the next few minutes, under good pressure from the O’Mahony’s backs including Brian Hughes Magennis, Jack Quinn and Craig Nolan. Dean Halpin returned a passed 45 to Paddy Yourell who then split the posts for a two-pointer, leaving only one between the sides.

Seneschalstown responded quickly and pointed from play before Kian McGee kicked an impressive score to make it a one-point game again. A goal opportunity for Seneschalstown was denied in the twenty-fourth minute by a goal-line intervention from Christy Dillon.

The sides drew level when Joyce converted a free after a foul on Rían Porter and Halpin gave O’Mahony’s the edge with a score from a narrow angle approaching half time.

Eight points separated the sides when Ciaran Wickham scored a point with five minutes remaining, with Tiarnán Black following suit two minutes later.
