Gaeil Colmcille 3-13 Trim 2nds 2-08
In the first ever hurling game played at the newly renovated Coogan Park in Martry, Gaeil Colmcille secured a quarter final place in the 2025 Intermediate Hurling Championship with victory over Trim's second team.
Points from Tiernan Anderson, Andrew Gormley and Liam Ferguson, and a Dylan Roche goal gave Kells a perfect start. Trim's first point after 12 minutes was soon followed by a second Kells goal from Evan Sheridan. Anderson added another point from a free, but Trim got themselves into the game with a goal at the beginning of the second quarter. Another Liam Ferguson point was answered by one from Trim. Roche then struck for his second goal and he accounted for his team's final score of the half with a point in between Trims third and fourth of the afternoon.
Kells extended their lead in the opening ten minutes of the second half with points from Anderson, Liam Devine and two from Sheridan, while Trim's only score was from a converted free during the same period. Just when it looked like the Gaeil's were building up an unassailable lead, Trim hit a purple patch midway through the half, hitting 1-03 without reply to reduce the deficit to five points. A Tiernan Anderson free steadied the ship for Kells, and points from Shane Callaghan and Liam Ferguson ensured the victory and the quarterfinal place.
