Ratoath's Gavin McGowan has David Conneely, Patrick Potterton and Evan Fitzgerald (Kildalkey) hot on his heels during the Meath SHC clash at Pairc Tailteann

Ratoath 3-16 Kildalkey 0-11

Jubilee Cup holders Ratoath booked their place in the Meath Senior Hurling Championship semi final with this comfortable win over Kildalkey at Pairc Tailteann. Billed as the game of the weekend its failed to live up to expectation as the Village men were no match for the in form holders.

In a very even opening twenty minutes Kildalkey trailed 0-5 to 0-4 before two goals in as many minutes turned this game on its head. Goal number one arrived courtesy of a long range Podge O’Hanrahan free that deceived the Kildalkey defence. A minute later Cian Rogers raised green flag number two with a well executed move. Paddy Conneely replied with two pointed frees for Nick Fitzgerald’s men as last years champions went in at the break 2-5 to 0-6 in front.

Ratoath extended that lead to 2-8 to 0-8 inside the opening ten minutes before Kildalkey were reduced to 14, referee Derek Argue showing red to Evan Fitzgerald. From there on it was all Ratoath and even the introduction of Nicky Potterton at the break couldn’t re-energise Kildalkey. Ratoath outscored Kildalkey 0-8 to 0-1 after that dismissal before O’Hanrahan was set up by Daithi McGowan for his second goal.

The winners top group A and advance to the semi final. They take on Clann na nGael in round 5 at Trim on Sunday September 7th. Kildalkey face Kiltale to decide 2nd and 3rd in the group in Pairc Tailteann.
