John L McGee Carnaross

Carnaross 1-14
Moynalty 2-10

A large crowd descended on Páirc Naomh Chiarán to witness a keenly contested All County JFC Division 5 Group B match between Carnaross and Moynalty.

Moynalty raced out of the blocks scoring 1-5 in the first quarter punishing a flat footed home side. Eventually Carnaross began to motor through the boot of the ever reliable John L McGee. Dermot McGee and debutant Adam Tallon wrestled control of the midfield battle with Ian Donoghue mopping up breaking ball. The Ross knocked over 5 consecutive points in this purple patch to reduce the gap to 1 at half time. Thomas Nugent was unlucky to see his soccer style effort rebound off the post just before Paul Mooney blew his half time whistle.

In the second half ,the Hoops continued where they left off.  Paddy Morris' direct running yielded a powerful goal either side of converted frees from McGee. An intercepted kickout led to Dermot McGee being denied expertly by the Moynalty goalkeeper as Carnaross looked to put the game to bed. Moynalty called in reinforcements , which had the desired effect , as the fresh legs gave them renewed energy. They hit a quickfire 1-3 to restore parity.  With 10 minutes to go, the game was in the melting pot as the atmosphere began to intensify. The highlight of the half was when Shane McNiffe, sporting a pair of questionable white boots, sent over a beauty of a score from an acute angle, much to the delight and surprise of the crowd. Moynalty responded with a 2 pointer free to keep tabs with the home side.  McGee continued to terrorise the tidy villagers as Carnaross held a slender advantage entering the final few minutes. The home side were reduced to 14 but somehow conjured up a winner from the boot of Paddy Morris. Moynalty had a free to share the spoils but their effort came up short.

A one point win for the Ross to keep their hopes of progressing alive.
