Kilskyre Moylagh 2-21 Drumree 0-16
Kilskyre Moylagh make good use of the extra man in the final quarter to get over the line at Dunsany.
A trip to Dunsany for a hurling championship match was not the typical journey for a hurling fixture but the pitch was in great shape for a contest that was always going to be tight with both teams pushing for victory to secure their place in knockout championship.
Drumree got off to a smart start showing their intensity forcing a free which they duly converted in the opening minute. From there both sides would exchange scores for the opening ten minutes. Kilskyre Moylagh gained a bit of momentum for the next ten minutes with three consecutive points from O’Higgins, McGrath and McDermott and you felt this might be a more straight forward day than it turned out to be but to their credit Drumree stuck with their plan and continued to pressurise their opponents again forcing frees in scorable positions four in total to leave the match all square at the break 0:09 to 0:09.
The second half started as it left off with both sides tacking on points well worked and converted points from Killian McCaffrey and man of the match Fergal Flynn. Then on the mid way point heading into the final quarter Drumree were down a man with a straight red and that combined with the introduction of subs Geraghty and Cooke and this game was put to bed as a contest with Kilskyre Moylagh outscoring Drumree in the final fifteen minutes by 2:07 to 0:03 and with that securing a IHC Semifinal slot.
For Kilskyre Moylagh they will need to work on frees conceded at crucial stages in games that are keeping opposition in contention and Drumree you will expect them to make the knockout stages if other results go their way.
