IFC: Michaels no match for O'Mahony's

August 18, 2025

St. Michaels David Lynch is put under pressure during the IFC clash with O'Mahony's at Sean Newman Park

St. Michaels 0-13, Navan O'Mahonys 4-18

O'Mahonys made a statement of intent in this second round group C match in Bohermeen on Sunday afternoon last with a resounding 17 point win over St. Michaels. O'Mahonys ability to find the net proved decisive as they rattled in four goals including a dominant burst of three majors in the opening 17 minutes which left the St. Michaels lads with a mountain to climb.

The winners had 1-3 on the board before David Lynch posted his sides opening point on 8 minutes. Gearóid O'Malley sent over a '45 while Cian McFadden split the posts twice from a frees to cut the deficit but O'Mahonys replied immediately with another minor from play. O'Malley added a further 3 points including a 2 pointer and Brian O'Reilly made good work splitting the O'Mahonys defence for a fine effort from play to leave just four points between the sides but the winners stretched their lead to a half dozen to finish the half 3-5 to 0-8 to the good at the break.

Gearóid O'Malley added the opening score of the new half from a free but O'Mahonys emerged a different animal for the second half and fired over six minors without reply and although O'Malley responded with another four from placed balls it proved to be only a brief interruption to the town sides dominance and at the end of the third quarter they raised their fourth green flag of the game and followed that with another four points (1x 2 pointer) for a comprehensive victory.
