All County IFC: Seconds bring some cheer on rollercoaster day for Dunboyne

August 18, 2025

Dunboyne's Stephen Moran

St Peter's, Dunboyne...2-10 Summerhill...0-14

As was the case in the first stanza of the club football championships, Dunboyne's Intermediate side lifted the spirits in the camp after the seniors had suffered another disappointing reversal earlier in the day against the same opposition, also at Pairc Tailteann.

In keeping with the two matches which preceded it - the curtain raiser to the thrilling trilogy being the SFC encounter between Seneschalstown and Ratoath - these were two very evenly matched teams. Both mixes of youth and experience. And, after closely contested first half, a Ross Reynolds two-pointer gave David Gallagher's charges a 0-07 to 0-04 interval advantage.

In the second half, it was very much a case of goals winning games because, even though the blue and gold outscored the eventual winners by 0-10 to 2-03 once referee Bernard Heaney got play going again, those 'majors' from Reynolds and David Mahon and a few crucial turnovers effected by Jack Hayes in the home straight ensured these black and ambers made it two from two on their own championship journey as the sun set on a splendid Pairc Tailteann Sunday.

St Peter's - J. McCormack; P. McGuirk, P. Lavin, P. Dempsey (0-1); C. Tobin, L. Conway, C. McCormack; C. Lonergan, D. Delaney; J. Hayes, N. Jones (0-1), Eoin McCrudden (0-2); Evan McCrudden, R. Reynolds (1-4), D. Mahon (1-2).

Subs - F. Waters for Delaney, H. Healy for C. Lonergan, S. Moran for Evan McCrudden, J. Lonergan for Conway, C. Martin for C. McCormack.

Referee - Bernard Heaney (Castletown?)
