Moynalvey ladies lost out to St. Patricks by five points in the opening round of the Kepak Junior ‘A’ football championship played in Stamullen on Wednesday evening 13th August.

The long Wednesday evening journey to East Meath proved to be a fruitless one for Moynalvey as the home side deservedly came out five point winners to take the opening two points in group B of the Junior ‘A’ FC.
Bar 1-1 in a the ninety seconds immediately after half time whereby Moynalvey cut the deficit to two points, St. Patricks were in control from start to finish, despite Moynalvey having their fair share of possession they were guilty of numerous bad wides and dropping balls into the St. Pats ‘keeper.
From the start it was St. Patricks who were quickest out of the blocks with two points on the score board in the opening seven minutes.
Moynalvey briefly took the lead with their first and only score of the first half when full forward Shiofra Deegan found the back of the St. Pats net, 1-0 to 0-2 with nine minutes gone.
That was as good as it got for the visitors as St. Patricks reeled off a further seven unanswered points to leave the half time score read 0-9 to 1-0.
A quickfire 1-1 in the ninety seconds straight after the break, the point from Jennifer McLoughlin and a second goal for Shiofra Deegan after the ball was turned over by Moynalvey further out the field had the deficit narrowed to two, 0-9 to 2-1.
The home side responded with four points on the spin, including a twelfth point which was deflected over the cross bar after an excellent save by Moynalvey goalkeeper Aoibheann Corcoran, leaving it 0-13 to 2-1 seventeen minutes into the second half.
A Jennifer McLoughlin free and a point from Louise Donoghue brought the deficit back to four, but the final score of the game went to St. Patricks before the full time whistle was blown to see the Stamullen side deservedly win out on a five point margin, 0-14 to 2-03.
