Gaeil Colmcille 2nds 2-15 Summerhill 2nds 1-18
Gaeil Colmcille and Summerhill seconds met straight after the Senior match in St. Loman’s Park in the first round of newly named Intermediate All County Championship.
Both sides served up a a cracker of a game with large leads for both sides during the game and in the end the sides couldn’t be separated as a free by Summerhill in the 9th minute of injury time rescued a draw after it looked like a two pointer from Liam Devine had won it for the Gaeils.
Gaeil Colmcille rushed into a 1-03 to 0-00 after two early fees from Liam Barry and Liam Devine was followed by a point from Danny Muldoon. A Seamus Hannon goal gave the Gaeils the perfect start but The Hill found their rhythm and were level by the 19th minute but a Ryan Farnham point restored Kells lead.
Both sides shared the next four points with Gaeil Colmcille’s Liam Barry tagging on two frees but Summerhill finished the half the strong and went in two points to the good leading 0-11 to 1-06
Both sides grabbed a point each early in the half with Barry getting his fourth of the day and this was followed by a Liam Devine two pointer free to see the sides level.
Kells went ahead in the 38th minute with another Farnham point but that was as good as it got for The Gaeils as in the next 13 minutes Summerhill rattled off 1-05 to no reply to lead by 7 points 1-17 to 1-10.
The introduction of Gary McGovern was epic as McGovern kicked two points in less than 60 seconds to galvanise the Kells comeback. A Liam Barry free was followed by a second goal from Seamus Hannon to leave one point between the teams.
With 8 minutes of injury time played, Liam Devine thought he had won the game for Gaeil Colmcille when he nailed a two pointer free free but The Hill grabbed the equaliser one minute later to see the game finish in what was probably a deserving draw for both sides.
