August 11, 2025

A win for St. Ultans over Carnaross on the redeveloped Thomas Coogan Park in Martry in the All County JFC

St Ultans 6-11 Carnaross 3-10

Thomas Coogan Park in Martry has undergone a major redevelopment and the first game on the redeveloped pitch was the opening round of the All County Junior Championship Div 5.

The sides were very familiar with each other having played out a draw in the opening round of the League and meeting again in the final with St Ultans coming out on top. A large crowd gathered for the game and they were treated to an entertaining high scoring contest. Cillian Yore split the posts for the opening score quickly followed by a brace of points from corner Forward Tom Brennan. Carnaross settled and two pointed frees either side of a Chris Rennicks point brought them back into the game. Full forward Richie Lynagh who caused Carnaross full back line problems throughout the game got the game’s first goal. The sides exchanged points but a Cillian Yore goal after a fantastic run left Ultans seven points to the good approaching half time. The Carnaross response was immediate and a goal narrowed the gap to four at the break.

The second half continued to provide plenty of scores but Ultans maintained the lead throughout defending well including a ten minute period when the home side were down to fourteen for a black card infraction. The second half brought a further six goals all of which were excellent finishes and gave the respective goalkeepers no chance. The Ultans goals came from Tom Brennan (2), Aaron Smyth and David Monaghan. Next up for St Ultans is a trip to Syddan
