IHC: Steady progess for Kilskyre Moylagh

August 11, 2025

Kildalkey's Michael Carr with Willie McGrath Kilskyre Moylagh during the IHC clash at Grangegodden

Kilskyre Moylagh  1-22  Kildalkey 0-13

Kilskyre Moylagh are three from three and well on their way to securing a place in the knockout stages of this year’s Intermediate Championship.

Kildalkey won the toss and played with the wind in the first half. A lively opening few minutes from Kildalkey with a point from play and early pressure left Kilskyre Moylagh in no doubt they would have to step it up otherwise this could be another year failing to put away a Kildalkey second team.

Kilskyre Moylagh got going hard and fast and before you knew it, they had a goal and six points on the board before Kildalkey got their second score on the 15th minute mark. Points from Oisin McDermott, Willie McGrath, Tom Shine before Darren O’Higgins got in for the only goal of the game.

Kilskyre Moylagh continued to dominate the second quarter but will look at the number of wides that kept Kildalkey in this contest giving them the oxygen to secure the last three points before the break narrowing the gap to six points.

The second half was a closer contest as Kildalkey had to go it and a change in tactics did pay some dividends and they narrowed the gap to five points but that’s the closest they got. The game got messy which suited Kildalkey but Kilskyre Moylagh got their shape back and kicked on for the final quarter keeping Kildalkey scoreless.

Stand out performances for Kilskyre Moylagh were Paul Hennessy, Lorcan Maguire, Daire Shine and Sean Tunney on the day when Seanie Geraghty made a camo appearance in the closing minutes as substitute an exceptional personal achievement considering a serious achilles tendon injury earlier this year.

Kilskyre/Moylagh: Charlie Usher, Conor Rennicks, Podge Muldoon, Jack Connell, Lorcan Maguire, Daire Shine (0:04), Paul Hennessy, Oisin McDermott (0:01) , Fergal Flynn, Darren O’Higgins (1:01), Tom Shine (0:05), Derek Muldoon, Sean Tunney (0:02), Willie McGrath (0:09), Killian McCaffrey.

Subs: Sean Geraghty for Killian McCaffrey, James McDonnell, Gavin Corrigan, Niall Farrelly, Junior O Reilly, Eoin Briody, Jamie Casserly, Ronan McGuinness.
