Casserly and Sheridan crowned All Ireland Cic Árd Challenge Champions

Joe Sheridan retained his Cic Árd title and St Ultans Ladies Rachel Casserly is the new Ladies Champion as the respective winners of the St Ultan’s, Mens and Ladies All Ireland Cic Árd Challenge on Bank Holiday Monday 4th of August at Sean Newman Park, Allenstown, Kells, Co. Meath.

Joe kicked the ball 75ft over the elevated crossbar in the men’s competition. Rachel achieved a height of 45ft. All entrants had to deal with a challenging wind conditions on the day and this added to excitement and skill levels required.

Joe is a Seneschalstown club man and former Meath player. Although he was kicking points to win on Sunday, he is probably best remembered for his goal scoring escapades for Meath in Croke Park to win the Leinster title in 2010. Joe also won two senior football championships with Seneschalstown in 2007 and 2009. The runners up in the Men’s competition were Conor O’Reilly and Dylan Roche

Rachel is a St Ultans Ladies player and has represented Meath at Senior County Level. She was a key member of the St Ultans Ladies team that won the Junior Championship in 2023 and will be a very important part of the St Ultans Ladies Intermediate Championship campaign in 2025. The runners up in the Ladies competition were Aisling Marley and Toyah Hennessy.

The event was well supported with players from clubs in Meath participating with a lucrative prize of €1,000 euro for both the Men’s and Ladies prizes.

St. Ultan’s GFC would like to say a massive thank you to Tom O’Reilly from Tara Steel and Engineering. Not only is this event the brainchild of Tom, he very kindly sponsored all the prizes on the day for the adult competitions and commissioned the bespoke trophies from his premises at Durhamstown, Navan, Co. Meath.

There were multiple other events on the day for both adults and children. Special mention must go to Conn Brennan from the St Ultans Cortown Gaels minor team who won the long point competition clearing the black spot and from an incredible 60 metres. The winners of these events are as follows.
