Navan O’Mahony’s 1-20
Trim 3-08
There was a mix of all seasons in St Lomans Park on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon for the opening round of the JACFC Div 1. With a gale blowing throughout, there was spells of beautiful sunshine with rain at other stages. O’Mahony’s came away with a six point win with ten different scorers.
Conor Brady was quick to score, giving O’Mahony’s, with the wind against them, an early lead. It was short-lived, with Trim kicking a good score into the town end. Within two minutes, Jack Flynn and Tiarnán Black had both added their name to the scoresheet, both shots needing the assistance of the metalwork on their way over.
Midway through the half, Craig Nolan, Shane Maguire and Hugh Clarke Carolan had all added scores and O’Mahony’s lead by five until Trim found the net to reduce the gap. Points from Maguire and Eoin Joyce (free) extended this again. With five minute in the half, three separated the sides after a Trim score.
After scores from Maguire, Black and Paddy Yourell, O’Mahony’s looked in a good position facing into half time after playing against the elements. Leading by six in injury time, a two-pointer and a goal in quick succession left the minimum between the sides at the interval.

Trim 2-05
Two minutes into the second half, Trim had drawn level and took the lead for the first time in the thirty-sixth minute with a point from play. This became a four point lead with a goal less than a minute later, a ten-point turnover in as many minutes.
O’Mahony’s kept calm however and a two-point free from Joyce settled things. Within a minute of this, Black made a great run across the Trim defence, picking out Cormac Nugent with a pass and the latter found the net to restore the advantage to the Brews Hill men.
With fifteen minutes left in the half, O’Mahony’s lead by three with Flynn and Joyce adding to their earlier tallies. When the gap was reduced to the now dangerous two points, Black stood up and kicked a very impressive two-pointer.
Almost ten minutes passed without score and it looked like O’Mahony’s had secured a four-point victory. With the clock ticking down into injury time, Shane McCarthy became the tenth man in a blue and white jersey to raise a flag and six points was the final margin of victory.
