Carnaross 2-14 Moylagh 2-13
Carnaross marked their return to Junior A football with a hard earned victory against Moylagh. In an immaculately presented Ballinlough, a huge crowd descended and were treated to an entertaining encounter.
Moylagh began the brighter with the first two scores before Carnaross levelled proceedings through Oisín Yore and Paddy McDermott. The Ross then took the lead for the first time after McDermott escaped the clutches of Fergal Flynn. Moylagh replied with two quick-fire points from the marauding Sean Reilly. The first goal came courtesy of Paddy McDermott after he was ably assisted by Oisín Farrelly. Moylagh responded with a goal of their own from the penalty spot. Luke Gillic was enjoying the physical battle of the kickouts and even added a point off his left foot. It was very difficult to separate the teams on the scoreboard but a Charlie Murphy delivery saw Cillian Comaskey get a paw to it to raise a second green flag. The half time score read Carnaross 2-7 to Moylagh's 1-6.
The second half began with a bang for the men in green when they hit the Hoops for 1-1 to restore parity. The men in maroon and amber didn't panic though and quickly re-established their lead with Darragh O’Reilly and Paddy McDermott raising white flags. The game ebbed and flowed with Paddy Farnan leading the charge mopping up numerous breaks. Shane Yore and John Reilly worked tirelessly up and down the wings to set up Charlie Murphy and McDermott to keep the scoreboard ticking over. The tension was palpable with the priceless two points up for grabs. Mossy Plunkett stayed composed and landed a lovely point from distance. McDermott converted a 45 and 2 frees as the Ross made a push for home. However, Carnaross were dealt a blow when Oisín Yore was black carded. Moylagh seized the initiative and levelled matters as the clock ticked into the red. A failure to convert long range frees cost Moylagh dearly as Carnaross were afforded a chance to win it. Up stepped the hero of the hour, Oisín Yore, who launched over the crucial score from 30 yards, to send the Carnaross crowd wild. A few tense possessions followed but nothing occurred until Peter O'Halloran blew the final whistle.
