Dunderry 4-15 Ballinlough 6-15
Cathal Barron in his first championship start banged over a fine two pointer to open the scoring. The reds of Ballinlough however went straight back down the pitch and raised a green flag. They followed that up with a point before a brace of points from Oisin O'Neill and Callum Bartley. Another point from play for Ballinlough was cancelled out when Barron struck again after Mark Leavy picked him out. The Lough went four up when they landed their second goal and a point from play.
Mark Leavy pointed himself next. The resulting kick out was intersected by Mc Keever and he set up Kelly who rounded the keeper to levele proceedings with a goal. The reds hit back with two points from play either side of an Adam Kelly free after Mc Keever was pulled down. Turleys men were beginning to find a rhythm. Barron and Leavy combined to set up Kelly who bagged his second Goal. Leavy was involved in the next score , this time Ciarán Sheridan raised a white flag. Kelly pointed from play to stretch the lead out to four. The resulting kick out went over the top and the Dunderry defence were at sixes and sevens. Goal and, back to a point. Bartley tapped over two in a row at the end of moves involving Barron and Kelly to put a goal between the sides. Alas the next time the ball went back down the pitch the same goal was pulled back by the Ballinlough men. They followed it up with a point from play to put their noses in front again. A patient build ip involving Bartley, Ó Laoire and Barron led to a Mark Leavy point. The lough lads finished the half with another point to head for the dressing room a point up.
The red corner started the second half with back to back points from play. Dunderrys answer was a Mark Leavy run up the line and off load to O Neill for a point. Ballinlough responded with a point from play. A siege on the Ballinlough goal didn't yield anything but, when the play went all the way to the other goalmouth the fifth green flag was raised. This was followed by another brace of points to put eight between the sides.
Another goalmouth scramble resulted in Adam Kelly converting a penalty. Whatever thoughts of a comeback were put to bed by a two pointer and a sixth goal. Conor Leavy pointed next for the Village. William Tracy was pulled down after speedy run at the opposition and Kelly duly dispatched the spot kick past the net minder. A final point for Ballinlough from play was followed by a shot for goal skimming the crossbar from the boot of Kelly.
An entertaining game with the man in the middle in full control even though there wasn't a linesman or umpire in sight for him in Dunganny of all places.
