St Brigids 0-14 Clann na nGael 1-13
Cortown was the venue for our first round of the 2025 Junior Championship on Friday evening.
St Brigids started brightly with the first four points on the scoreboard before Clann na nGael got off the mark in the sixth minute. Brigids were keeping Clann Na nGael at arms length for the rest of the half with stout defending and a good workrate around the rest of the pitch which led to us taking a four point advantage into the break with the score reading 0-11 to 0-07 in our favour.
Unfortunately the second period didn't go to the same plan as we missed a few early chances in the half to push out the advantage and then struggled to get any momentum going and conceded a Clann na nGael goal in the 38th minute which led to Clann na nGaels purple patch of sorts which yielded four unanswered points to lead by three points by the 50th minute. Cian Blake pointed two frees followed by another Clann na nGael point to leave two points between the sides as the home straight beckoned. With minutes left on the clock Clann na nGael breached the threeup rule twice but we opted to try for two pointers but unfortunately both were missed and left Clann na nGael to hold on for a hard earned first round victory.
Next up for us is Moylagh in round two on Sunday 17th at 2pm in Ballinlough.
