Dunderry 1-14 Killyon 2 -25
Round two of the championship saw Dunderry take on Killyon in Trim. Both teams suffered defeats in the first round.
Dunderry opened the scoring when William Tracy picked out Mark Leavy who tapped over. Killyon responded before Evan Nolan struck over following a pass from Donagh Ó Laoire. Killyon reply again. Cathal Barron collected well and drilled over on the run and the next score went Dunderrys way through Evan Nolan. The first converted free of the game was next for Killyon leaving the score at four to three. Next Liam Ccogan gathered in his square , drove out and delivered to Barron who found Mark Leavy in space and credit to the youngster he buried it. Everything looking rosey for Dunderry until the play went up the field and Killyon reply with a goal of their own. Barron pointed again but his opponents pointed twice in response. Darragh Fay pointed on the move following nice link up play from both of his midfielders. The next score came from Barron again when Fagan landed his puc out into his paw. Nolan converted a brace of frees either side of a point from play for Killyon to leave the score at twelve to nine. Nolan stretched the lead further when Donagh Ó Laoire dropped the sliothar back out to him. Lovley hurling....
Something happened for Killyon or Dunderry just went asleep but Killyon hit a goal and three without reply to go in at the interval leading by two. Half time 1-10 against 2-09
The second half saw Mark Leavy opening the scoring again to leave the minimum between the sides.
What happened next was a complete capitulation from the black corner in which Killyon struck eight from play and two frees to put eleven between the sides before Nolan got to point from a free. A half that Killyon will want to remember and hopefully Dunderry will use to their benefit down the line in the development of this young team.
A half that saw more cards than scores for Dunderry and a lot of head scratching, both on and off the field. Killyon outscored Dunderry seventeen to four (only one from play) versus three frees and eleven from play.
