Kildalkey's Matty Cully

Boardsmill 0-19 Kildalkey 1-12

With both teams needing a win after losing their first round games there was a lot on the line in Kilyon on Friday night as Kildalkey and Boardsmill battled for the 2 points on offer to revive their chances in the competition.

Kildalkey got up and running with a Mattie Cully free the first of 6 in the first half for him. But it was Boardsmill who settled better and hit a flurry of points from play to punish any mistakes by the Kildalkey men and were looking good but a point from James Cully and a tap in goal by Ryan Byas after a scramble in the Boardsmill goalmouth and another couple of Mattie Cully frees left Kildalkey only 1 point behind at the break 1-7 to 0-11 .

Podger Geoeghan and Matt Rickard hit the first 2 points for Kildalkey but that was matched by frees from Boardsmill.

Cully again from a free brought his team to 1-10 but again Boardsmill kicked on with Stevie Gibbons hitting a long effort and Luke Gallagher popping over the frees.

Ben Rickard got the last 2 points for Kildalkey and 4 points down they searched for a goal but the Boardsmill defence stood firm and kept them out.

Tiernan Bird, David Harmon, Edward Dunne, Matt Rickard and Michael Carr tried their best in defence but it wasn’t to be as Boardsmill were best on the day.
